The Stud

The Team

The experienced team at Moyns Park Stud is dedicated to providing a high quality service.

Key members include:

Stud Owners

Since taking over the stud in 2002, John and Pascal Gardiner, with their daughter Frances, have painstakingly restored, improved and added to the stable buildings, yards and paddocks to cater for mares, foals, weanlings, yearlings and, by special arrangement, stallions.

With a keen interest in breeding and racing, they are establishing a small band of high quality broodmares, which they hope will provide the foundations for future success, both at the sales and on the racecourse. John has a keen interest in pedigrees and is involved in co-ordinating the breeding plans for the mares together with Stud Groom, Anthony Smyth.

Stud Groom

The Stud is managed on a day-to-day basis by Anthony Smyth, who has more than 25 years' experience of working with broodmares, foals and yearlings.

Anthony started his career at Coolmore, moving on to Mount Coote Stud to gain experience in sales preparation. He worked subsequently at such acclaimed establishments as Whitsbury Manor, Kirtlington, Lavington, and Car Colston Hall studs, the latter where he was appointed Stud Manager and was responsible for rearing Group 1 winners Soldier Hollow and Ticker Tape, and Group 3 winner Day Walker.

Anthony, together with John, is overseeing the breeding programme for the Stud's foundation mares and will be happy to discuss with our clients their own breeding plans. He is also responsible for sales preparation of foals and yearlings, and for any horses out of training who are visiting the stud for rest and recuperation.

Stud secretary

Mandy Whitlock runs the Stud office and looks after the accounts. She worked previously as a partner in a top firm of accountants in London. However, in December 2007 she decided to retire early to pursue her interest in breeding Thoroughbreds, having owned horses in training previously. She has two mares of her own. Mandy also undertakes consultancy work for other businesses in the racing industry.
